🎼 Josquin Machine v0.5 Alpha

Josquin Machine is an experimental generative music tool inspired by Renaissance modal counterpoint.

It creates two-voice modal counterpoint in real time. You can let the machine compose automatically, or direct it live using simple keyboard controls.

The program can generate a **soggetto** — a short seed melody — and use it as thematic material for imitation, fragments and modal development.

Josquin Machine can export:

1. name.wav 
2. name_counterpoint.mid
3. name_soggetto.mid
4. name.json

The counterpoint and the soggetto are exported as separate MIDI files, so you can use them independently in a DAW like Ableton Live, Logic, FL Studio, Reaper or similar.

🧪 Alpha note

This is a functional alpha. The tool works from start to finish, but the musical behavior is still experimental.

Current areas for future improvement include:

⚙️ Requirements

Python 3 is required.

Install dependencies with:

python3 -m pip install -r requirements.txt

Run with:

python3 main.py

🤖 AI / procedural generation note

Josquin Machine uses self-contained procedural composition algorithms during music generation.

It does not call online AI models while generating music.

This project was developed with AI-assisted coding and writing support, then tested and curated manually.

Josquin Machine is inspired by Renaissance modal counterpoint, but it does not attempt to literally recreate Josquin des Prez or replace the study of historical counterpoint.

It is an experimental composition machine for exploring generative music, MIDI workflows and modal counterpoint.
